    Working as a project engineer in the Finnish Datahub project. Datahub is the future centralised information exchange system for the Finnish electricity retail markets. My main tasks include:- Documentation for the procurement and requirements of Datahub’s data migration system- Communication to market parties on matters concerning data migration- Preparing the documentation for Datahub procurement and technical requirements During this time I have learned a lot about data systems and got a deeper knowledge about electricity markets.Since the Summer 2017 I have participated part time in Fingrid's smart grid development focusing on the information exchange in the smart grids. I have been representing Fingrid in an European working group which is aiming to harmonize the information exchange regarding flexibility trading. Working in these projects and attending different stakeholder events in the energy sector has been a great vantage point to the industry and an exciting opportunity to learn about all the initiatives around Europe which are aiming to bring more flexibility to the energy system.

    Continuing my previous assignment, I focused on using different telecommunication methods to utilize the IEC 61850 standard on DG protection. I have also got familiar with the active control of DG which is required due to the fast increase of solar and wind power.Furthermore, I participated in a project called Roadmap 2025, which aimed to create a ten-year roadmap for Finnish electricity markets. The aim was also to create a common vision for the electricity markets in 2035. A group of Finnish universities and companies alike were involved in the project.

I wrote my master's thesis on wind power's local effects, which included the theoretical basics of wind power generation, PSCAD-simulations of single wind turbines in the rural power grid and the profitability of both new and used turbines.     During the summer and the fall I worked for the Vaasa Energy Institute and wrote my bachelor's thesis on "Local Energy Production in the Vaasa Housing Fair Area". My research consisted of collecting measurement data of different studies conducted in the area. The area uses sediment heat from below the seabed. The low heat energy is used in the buildings via heat pumps. The housing fair area was also a test site for the use of landfill gas in a microturbine and a fuel cell. The gas is collected from a nearby decommissioned landfill. During the summer I was excited to learn about different kinds of renewable energy production and it also motivated me with my later studies.Parts of the thesis were published in:Hiltunen, E., Martinkauppi, J.
