About Jules Carlson

Knowledgeable about analytical chemistry for environmental and food applications.I have over 10 years of experience in the environmental chemistry field working on laboratory and field research projects. I am very interested in the fate pharmaceuticals and pesticides in the environment and have examined their fate in several environmental compartments. I have looked extensively at photochemistry and oxidation as a removal process of pollutants in the aqueous natural environment, as well as in water treatment.I have recently been working as a team lead for the analysis of pesticides in agricultural commodities.Expertise in sampling, sample cleanup, and analysis:I am knowledgeable in procedures for sediment grab sampling, passive water sampling, and soil coring with several types of sampling instruments.I have performed method development and implementation of methods for wet chemistry for basic water parameters, in liquid/liquid extraction from soils, sediments, and tissues, in solid-phase extraction of water, QuEChERS extractions from agricultural products, liquid extracts, blood, and extraction off of passive sampler media.I have trained others in wet chemistry techniques and with several analytical instruments in research or in class room including:• Titrations * Distillations * Reflux/Soxhlet• NMR * IR * UV• LC/UV * LC/Fluorescence * LC/MS• GC * GC/MS * AASLC/MS/MS Expertise:• 10 years experience working with LC/MS/MS instruments.• Experienced in method development for pharmaceuticals and pesticide measurements from soil extracts, water, wastewater, sediment, and various tissue extracts. • Trained others in LC/MS analysis and method development.
