About Jules Marsh
A multi-faceted, creative business executive, educator, & naturalist. I studied sustainable engineering, receiving a Civil & Environmental Engineering degree from the University of Washington and began my career working first for WSDOT and then for private engineering firms. My passion for sustainable infrastructure and the environment extended into my creation of and work with Kelpful.I founded Kelpful as a worker-owned cooperative in 2017 alongside some amazing women. We wild harvested seaweed sustainably by hand. I got an MBA. I came on board full time as Sales Manager in 2022 and we tripled our production and sales. In 2023 I took over as CEO and pivoted the company, focusing on educational experiences ranging from wild foraging tours to educational programs for students and businesses, seaweed workshops, even event catering and private parties. Now in 2024, we are winding down and closing the Kelpful chapter. I began teaching at Santa Monica College and over the next year that role is expanding into curriculum development and a professorship.The experience of Kelpful left me with a wide net of experience and skillsets related to business, CPG, food systems, and sustainability. I offer consulting services helping businesses launch and grow in areas such as e-commerce, marketing, cash flow and budgeting, more efficient systems, etc. I am currently working with two women owned mushrooms businesses: a mushroom farm and shop in Cambria, CA and most recently came aboard Heart of God Organics as COO. The crossover between algae and fungus is fascinating. Supporting these incredible women and growing their businesses is deeply fulfilling and fun.
