The success of DUMBASS can be attributed to its connection to important current world events, the phenomenal cover image from Reuters and the provocative title. Despite my unique style, I have a gift for adopting the voice of others. I am an expert in all-things publishing....and I'm not being glib. From production to printing to marketing and everything in between, I have learned the lessons and "seen it all..." While there is always more to learn and new ways of approaching old challenges, it would be difficult to stump me in this area. I have two new books coming out shortly.

Daytime - Rogers Tv Durham

Rotating Production Crew

Oshawa, On

Daytime is a one hour (originally a 90 minute) live-to-air daytime talk show. I took rotating crew positions and learned the ropes from two of the finest producers and technical directors in the business. As a former professional stage manager, I was always keeping an eye on the little details...regardless of the position I held that day, I was the one who would dash in to fix a lav during the commercial break, and I always carry a fresh pack of batteries, sucking candies for coughs and a hairbrush and powder for shiny or dishevelled hosts and guests. Here are the crew positions and mastered during my time on Daytime:Floor Director, Guest Liaison, VTR, Camera, Inscriber, Graphics -- and I also acted as segment producer on numerous occasions.

Organizational Development Consultant/Action For Neighbourhood Change Project

The United Way

Thunder Bay, On

Project managed a place-based social policy experiment designed to explore the potential benefits of creating charitable homeowner's associations in nine notoriously marginalized neighbourhoods across Canada. The homeowner's associations then implemented grassroots programs to effect positive change.Rallied and trained neighbourhood residents to form and operate a registered charity; trained them in organizational management and the intricacies of managing a registered charity in compliance with existing legislation.Obtained special dispensation from Canada Revenue Agency to obtain status as a registered charity under unusual circumstances. Out of the nine neighbourhoods, mine was the only one to achieve this project deliverable.Oversaw many neighbourhood programs, such as the implementation of new lighting and outside sharps disposal receptacles in high drug-use areas; the establishment of new safe houses for youth and active drug users to reduce street violence; and successfully petitioned the city to confiscate a Hell’s Angels club house, which was turned into an Aboriginal youth centre.

Program Director

Northwestern Ontario Technology Centre

Thunder Bay

The NOTC was a business incubator associated with Lakehead University, at a time when incubators were all the rage in economic development and job creation initiatives. Funded by Fednor, we advised and grew technology-based businesses with the goal of creating jobs in NWO, while supporting the development of a vibrant, burgeoning tech community. As Program Director, my role was to advise and support growing businesses and to create new revenue streams to make the NOTC self-sufficient at the end of their government-supported growth years. I initiated and managed many programs, but the most successful was the IT training lab, which surpassed revenue goals ten-fold. I also organized venture capital events; flying Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors up to Thunder Bay from all over North America. Once we had them convened, we entertained them with a sort-of cocktail party, while the client businesses that we deemed ready – after coaching and preparation – gave elevator pitches to their captive VC audience. Interested investors were then able to hear longer presentations and hold discussions in the boardrooms and offices. Two of our notable success stories include Genesis Genomics (2 rounds of VC financing) and Skystream Systems, who eventually sold their video streaming technology to Disney.
