Bramley'S Cocktail Bar

Bramley's Cocktail Bar is an atmospheric venue in the heart of Canterbury, with a small stage and excellent acoustics for music events.I have founded and cofounded various niche musical events there; specialising in less usual, yet much wanted types of events that often have filled gaps in the music scene in Canterbury.-The Bramley's Jazz JamStarted in December 2014 Involving Jazz Singer/Songwriter Dulcie May Moreno as host, and a house band rhythm section; the Bramley's Jazz Jam is a regular event where local Jazzers can get togethor and jam standards, originals, improvisations and grooves.-Bramley's Big Apple Jive NightIn association with Dance Teacher Andrew Hall; this regular event combines a dance class with a night of 30s-50s rocknroll, swing and jive to Live Music with an open Dance floor. Andrew gives a taster dance class of a different style each event; after which there is a Live Band playing appropriate music for Jive dancing. -The Bramley's Blues Jam Much like the Bramley's Jazz Jam but focused around Blues, with Rob Wicks (Singer/Songwriter and Banjo player for Coco & The Butterfields) as Host; this was initially set up to accomodate the large number of Blues musicians who began turning up the Jazz Jams lookign for a space to jam; and to our pleasant surprise, was an immediate success. -The Laughter Lounge at Bramley'sIn association with comedian Jamie Langdon; we experimented with putting on a Stand-Up Comedy night at Bramley's. This was relatively successful however we found logistically didn't work due to the venue having to be quiet for people to hear the comedians, which meant the bar could not shake cocktails which is quite noisy.-The Bramley's Funk JamIn association with Simon Treadwell and house band The Funkateers; this is new Jam Session revolving around Funk; mostly 70s funk but open to other styles and whatever the customers wish to groove to.Other possible events in the future may include a Latin Night and a Folk Jam.

On Thursdays I play a set in the Shakespeare Wine Bar; this is sometimes piano; or at other times I bring in other musicians and we play as a trio or duet, often with guitarist Joshua Jack Lambert Price, where we play a set of Manouche, Gypsy jazz, and traditional music.

At La Trappiste I regularly play Piano Solo; usually Jazz & other Standards on weekend evenings; as part of a rota of several musicians. As well as this I often play there on special occassions; such as Valentine's day, New Year's Eve; Christmans eve or similar; and sometimes am asked to play for private parties booked there.

Looking for extra income and interesting work; I signed up to Universal Extras; who employ people to be background extra actors in films regardless of their acting experience. So far have only appeared in one film but will take any opportunity they offer me.

Ben Russell & The Charmers are a Canterbury based reggae band led by singer/songwriter Ben Russell. Their 2015 summer tour included Boomtown festival and Secret Garden Party, and finished in Autumn with a tour of South England supporting popular French reggae band The Banyans.

Hey Maggie is an 8 piece Reggae band in Canterbury, Kent; that plays a mixture of contempory Reggae covers; Marley covers and originals. One of only two reggae bands in the local area; Hey Maggie has performed with big names such as Dawn Penn, and Congo Natty; and at most of the local venues to Canterbury; the Maidstone Fringe festival; featured regularly at the Music For the Heart charity events and played at various festivals including Small World and Distorted Frequencies.

Dulcie May Moreno and the Mystery Cats was a jazz/soul band in the East Kent area. Characterised by a a very chilled out smooth sound; they played mostly originals but also popular covers the Mystery Cats played a variety of venues; charity festivals and functions, including festivals such as Small World, Hope Festival and a Ronnie Scotts Showcase evening; and had a large following. Usually playing Saxophone; I also played flute and keyboards with the Mystery Cats.

Anglian Windows, Canterbury

The job involved calling up potential customers offering free quotations on various home improvements provided by Anglian. Whilst not technically sales; the task of advertising and offering quotes was similar to a sales position; requiring good communication skills; a polite & pleasant telephone manner; and ability to generate interest in a product and highlight key aspects of it that could be potentially appealing. Skills learned here served me later when promoting music events.

Gist provides stock for Marks & Spencer; and have a warehouse in Faversham where I worked, stock picking and sorting. This was a fast paced job which among other things involved learning to use specific equipment and procedures; and being accurate and reliable.
