I was thrilled to teach marine science at CIMI! Over the course of three to five days, I facilitated ocean-based, hands-on educational experiences for students in 4th through 12th grade. We learned marine science through snorkeling, kayaking, squid dissections and fish, invertebrate, algae, marine mammal and deep sea labs. At CIMI, I aimed to spark students' interest in marine biology by guiding them through the magical world beneath the ocean's surface. I wanted students to leave Pimu (Catalina Island) with new knowledge of local marine ecosystems and the challenges they face, a fresh enthusiasm for learning, and a determination to help conserve aquatic biodiversity.

I tutored undergraduate students individually and in small groups in several Ecology and Evolutionary Biology courses. I held weekly sessions throughout the quarter as well as midterm and final exam review sessions, for which I created study guides, practice questions, and review games. I taught scientific research and writing skills in addition to course content, as two upper division courses included writing components. I also served as a peer mentor for my tutees.
