I am an Undergraduate Advising Director in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) at Stanford University. In this role, I meet one on one with undergraduate students to discuss a variety of academic and co-curricular subjects such as: choosing a major, course planning, academic progress, connecting with faculty, getting started with research, finding, and applying to fellowships, grants, and service opportunities, navigating university policies and procedures, improving study skills, and planning for graduate and professional school. In addition to advising, I serve in multiple additional capacities. I am an active member of the FLIERS team, a group of advising professionals focused on best supporting first generation and low income (FLI) students at Stanford. I am also a strong supporter of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at Stanford (and beyond) and is constantly seeking to educate myself and improve my practice in this regard. I also act as Academic Advising’s liaison for the Doerr School of Sustainability and Hopkins Marine Station and collaborate with Undergraduate Research as the main advisor for the Goldwater Scholarship, where I present information sessions and supports students in the application process.

• Provided one-on-one advice to students regarding career and academic opportunities and assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions relevant to their professional development• Collaborated with colleagues, faculty, and alumni to develop and implement programming and events, such as workshops on proposal writing, graduate and professional school applications, and career panels• Apprised students of research, fellowship, scholarship, grant, and internship opportunities and guide and review applications• Recorded detailed notes from student meetings and created student facing communications using Handshake• Conducted outreach through student clubs, organizations, and departments to inform students of services offered through the Center for Life Beyond Reed.

• Advise, mentor and facilitate professional development for scholars participating in an undergraduate research training program designed to increase the diversity of biomedical research scientists by supporting first generation, low income and underrepresented minority students (~50% transfer students)• As career mentor, use online scheduler, youcanbook.me, to meet one-on-one with scholars monthly to discuss academic progress and career goals• As enrichment lead, solicit student needs, plan and implement programming for small groups (~5) to entire cohorts (~80) of student scholars• Collaborate regularly with ~15 EXITO faculty and staff to review prospective scholar applications, evaluate current scholar progress, and develop and implement program improvements

• Incorporate inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy to create a classroom environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences• Promote active learning through use of iClickers, think-pair-share questions, student-led small group discussions, and inquiry-based independent research projects• Support students individually during office hours by sharing study tips, discussing options for career paths, and assisting with scholarship and graduate school searches• Provide detailed feedback on student research papers and opportunities for revision

• Coordinated summer bridge program to assist undergraduate STEM student scholars’ transition to Portland State University from local community colleges• Collaborated with university partners and stakeholders to support high-achieving, low-income transfer students through workshops and activities that help build student self-confidence and social support• Assist with focus group data collection and analysis for mixed methods research to reduce transfer shock and barriers to success for urban STEM transfer students

• Coordinated 30 professionals from a variety of life science fields to discuss their careers with diverse undergraduate students• Designed and led workshops on topics such as finding and obtaining undergraduate research experiences, networking, and conducting informational interviews• Evaluated the effectiveness of the course in helping to retain students in life science majors
