Regional Development Moreton Bay services a population of 480,000 and an economy with a Gross Regional Product of over $18 billion Regional Development Australia Moreton Bay is one of 47 organisations in a national network, funded by the Commonwealth. Collaboratively implementing relevant regional plans with all levels of government, industry, business and community groups, we created agency for local operators to build scalable, as well as, regionally-specific solutions to issues. Matching local assets, advantages and capability to interest and other forms of capital, we promoted ways that the region can prosper. By fostering local procurement and investment opportunities, we facilitated connections between seekers and providers of social, financial, technological, physical (infrastructure), natural and intellectual capital. SUHO is a medium, sized consulting business servicing over 2,000 clients on projects worth over $250 million. It uses tech to rapidly supply sustainability services to the commercial and residential building industries. I was hired to help the business owner transition out of the business, uplift the culture and organisational management. In addition to overseeing project delivery by all staff, I gave greater visibility of drivers of profit, future business growth and insight into how to balance risks while impacting, the sustainability of the building industry. Developing and delivering strategies for HR, IT, Finance, an AI enabled spin-off start up and streamlining services I facilitated an uplift in capability and culture. The managers I mentored led services including: Implementing WELL, NABERS, architectural design, energy modelling, compliance, Green Star/accreditations, building simulation and air tightness testing.

I started one for the first in-house sustainability teams in Australia at QUT (setting the pace for divestment from fossil-fuels, carbon emissions reduction and energy management strategies, sustainable procurement, resource efficiency, sector reporting plus risk management and Green-IT). My team organised sector benchmarking for sustainability across Australia working with the international Higher Education Association for Sustainability, Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability and the Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association. We also participated in the demonstration of a differentiated carbon reduction scheme. Reporting to a sub-committee of the CEO/Vice Chancellor I managed a team of 7 staff, overseeing the project activities of 300 in matrix relationships to coordinate improved systems, processes and outcomes in environmental sustainability and corporate finance aspects of social responsibility.I was recognised with a Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service for developing the QUT Sustainability Strategy and overseeing the implementation through programs for Carbon, Energy, Water, Sustainable Purchasing, Green IT, Waste, Built Environment and Transport. Projects yielded a 3:1 ROI. This included - culture and organisational change processes - internal and external reporting (e.g. sector benchmarking for sustainability performance including carbon accounting using international protocols and National Greenhouse Energy Reporting) - a marketing and engagement strategy, social marketing and promotion of sustainable behaviours to 38,000 students and 6,000 staff.- specifying staff training needs and learning pathways- providing experiential learning opportunities that drove performance improvement- the introduction of sustainable purchasing, the first Qld government body to adopt new sustainability purchasing standards.

The approaches taken proved the effectiveness of investment in catchment condition improvements and provided the basis of environmental markets in regions adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef.
