I am a Senior Research Leader at St. George’s, University of London, with a PhD in Epidemiology and Statistical Modelling - Oxford University) and Masters in Public Health (University of London). My research has focussed on understanding links between common chronic and infectious diseases such as diabetes (DM) and tuberculosis (TB). As part of an EC FP7 funded "TANDEM" consortium, I developed and evaluated methods to screen for DM in TB patients, including both standard DM markers and risk scores. I am a co-investigator in a large EDCTP funded consortium (protid-africa.com) which is carrying out the first global trial of preventive treatment for tuberculosis (3HP) among people living with diabetes in Tanzania and Uganda. I have broad interests in NCD prevention, receiving prestigious EC funding (PI €2.7 million, 7 international partners) to evaluate the national policy situation and cost-effectiveness of different policy options for CHD and diabetes prevention in four Eastern Mediterranean Countries (Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey) and funding to develop prevention strategies for diabetes in Qatar (2018 onwards). I have over 200 peer-reviewed publications, many as first or last author in high impact journals.
