I am very thankful that I was matched with Matheny for my IPPE Hospital Rotation. At Matheny I gained a sound understanding of a pharmacist’s role in caring for patients with Cerebral Palsy. I accumulated knowledge about common medications that are dispensed to CP patients and the pathophysiology of spasticity in CP. My responsibilities included filling medication, basic compounding, unit dose packaging, delivering medication to units, and filing medication interventions. I am very grateful for having the opportunity to work alongside such kind-hearted employees that continuously promote a positive work environment not only for each other, but for the patients as well.

Sterile Compounding

I worked with Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Abazia as the Class Liaison for the "Medical Literature Evaluation and Application" course for second year professional students at Rutgers, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. I was responsible for being the main line of communication between the professors and my peers. I helped relay announcements from the professors to students, and promptly clarified any questions that the student population may have addressed.

During this rotation I was able to help counsel patients on over the counter medication recommendations, communicate with doctors and insurance companies, answer patient phone calls, and fill prescriptions. I am very grateful for the team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians I got to work with, as I was able to see first-hand how a community pharmacy should be run in order to have loyal and long-term patients.
