All have had their self-esteem and confidence shattered by this abuse. Research suggests that Jewish women often feel particularly isolated and shamed at experiencing abuse in the community and religion that so stresses peace in the home and the sanctity of family life. This may prevent them seeking help, and evidence suggest that they wait longer than average before seeking assistance.The women we help desperately need to be understood, believed and supported by someone who understands their background and what is important to them. This is why specialist providers, like JWA, are so vital. We aim to keep the needs of Jewish women and children and the heart of what we do.• 1 in every 4 women experiences domestic violence in her lifetime and the Jewish community is no different. JWA has continued to run its six core services: • freephone national helpline• refuge• client support service (for women who do not wish to access the refuge)• children’s worker (who works with the children of our clients who are affected by abuse) • counselling (face to face or via telephone) • education, training and awareness raising programmesJWA is there for all Jewish women:• To provide confidential, accessible, empowering and culturally sensitive advocacy and support for Jewish women and children affected by domestic violence• Through education, training and awareness raising, to ensure that all sectors of the Jewish community recognise and speak out against domestic violence Show less
