Coordinated Santa Barbara County's Coastal Cleanup Day on Sep. 26th, California's largest volunteer led effort. Due to COVID-19, Coastal Cleanup Day transformed into Coastal Cleanup Month where volunteers were encouraged to clean up their neighborhoods on their own during the entire month of September. The new format of the event changed the role to include more social media and community outreach in order to relay the changes to volunteers. Coordination involved planning social media posts, creating engaging videos, answering questions from the community, setting up platforms for reporting cleanup data, and analyzing that data throughout the month. Over 700 volunteers picked up over 3,000 pounds of trash.

There are three main programs: Environmental Education, School Gardens, and the Art From Scrap Creative ReUse Store. Each program is focused on empowering people to protect and preserve the environment. The Environmental Education program consists of 3-4 educators who teach in-class lessons and field trips across Santa Barbara County for mostly grades K-5 . Each lesson is focused on some aspect of either waste or water. The educator's role is to teach these lessons while also adapt them for geographical differences between areas, grade levels, and natural, local phenomenon. In-class lessons include hands-on presentations with exciting activities based on different methods of learning. Field trips are to the Watershed Resource Center at Hendry's Beach next to Arroyo Burro creek. Depending on the lesson, students get to test and analyze water quality, participate in a beach clean up, and have fun with a watershed model. Topics covered in each lesson include:Waste: -Composting -Waste reduction (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)-Food waste -Creative reuseWater:-Watersheds-Pollution types-Marine debris-Water availabilityEnvironmental Educators also contribute to lesson plan changes, outreach event planning, social media, and administrative duties.
