Recently I have chosen to transition from clinical medicine to a nonclinical field of study. My passion has always been making sense of client's issues from a physical, emotional and spiritual level. Treatment, of course, would be directed at the system that is broken. Usually, problems have components on multiple levels. As a long-time practicing internist, I understand the human body well and how it works. As a recovering person who values her emotional health and maintains a strong spiritual program, I am very aware of the connection between the mind and body. No where is this as evident as it is in the treatment of chronic pain. My research on chronic pain involved minimally invasive procedures along with teaching one's body to control pain in different ways. We found this could be as effective for pain management as opiate medication. I plan to continue research in some form as I believe I am responsible to learn new treatments to make client's have better options. My experience, professional and personal, and my gift of being a good listener and teacher provide me with the tools I need to be a knowledgeable, persuasive wellness coach.
