About Julia Nelson

Currently, I am pursuing my B.Sc. in Microbiology & Immunology with a minor in the History of Science & Technology. I am completing certificates in Science Communication & Leadership and in Disability Management as well.I am very passionate about science communication, learning, and teaching. I aim to make science more accessible and inclusive for future scientists around the world. I enjoy attending seminars and conferences to better understand how to be an effective science communicator and leader, and am always looking for opportunities to apply my skills or remain involved in science communication and outreach.I also have a deep passion for accessibility and inclusivity for those living with disabilities. I have worked closely with people with disabilities for many years, and continue to try to enhance social opportunities for this population.

I was responsible for coordinating an overnight camping trip, and developing engaging programming for the campers, and overseeing their well-being while they were at camp. I was also responsible for mentoring counsellors-in-training (CITs). CITs are aged 14-17 and are typically neurotypical individuals seeking to gain skills for working with people with disabilities.
