Primarily managed a portfolio of research-specific laboratory management tools and data ecosystems supporting Biogen’s Research Centers of Excellence - production level research wet and dry labs focused on cell-based and in-life research screens, Genomics and Bioinformatics, and ranging across in vitro and in vivo based translational and exploratory research. Management of this portfolio was achieved by a combination of business relationship management and hands-on project execution, including assessment of roadmap, gaps and risks; identifying solutions and executing projects; general data management issues. Highlights:* Biobank: Led project from business analysis, configuration, and validated deployment and data migration of an enterprise-quality cloud software-as-a-service (SaaS) Biobank system for use in tracking of clinical trials-generated specimen assets numbering approximately 3 million vials and growing. * Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) LIMS: Led project to replace three aging and outdated solutions with a single, unified solution supporting Next Generation Sequencing, sequencer monitoring, digital droplet PCR, and automation. System ensures accurate specimen tracking through complex laboratory workflows while reducing hands-on-keyboard time 80%. Easily configurable COTS solution ensures ability to quickly add new workflows as new technology is adopted.* Support of major collaboration and consortium research sourcing human specimens and data, necessitating specific care for data privacy, appropriate use, and security.* IACUC protocol and animal management system replacement.* Open Targets: Team member supporting user engagement, requirements analysis, and beta testing for the Open Targets (targetvalidation.org) software platform collaboration, working with a large and diverse group of stakeholders.

Focused on creation of integrated suite of tools for complex research needs spanning Laboratory Information Management (LIMS), Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS), and Biorepository tools as a senior member of the life sciences product team. Specific contributions included:* Subject matter expertise for definition, development, delivery, and management of information systems listed.* Business analysis of customer use cases impacting product development.Interpretation and communication of technical and scientific context to guide engineering team, participate in sprint prioritization and roadmap development.* Provide in-house training on products and platform tools.* Develop quality assurance tests, product documentation and demonstrations.* Develop system architecture and ontology for new products within the confines of existing platform functionality.* Support implementation activities as needed, including custom configuration and customer demonstrations.

Responsible for laboratory management including supervision and training of students, equipment maintenance and training, production and tracking of DNA and strain libraries (biobank), MySQL database development to support work as needed, process development and troubleshooting.Research included characterization of variation and genomic relationships in pathogenic E. coli and Shigella isolates of varying pathotypes, outbreaks, and regional isolates through comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), high-throughput next generation sequencing (NGS), and expression profiling using microarray and Quantitative Real Time RT-PCR (RT-qPCR) techniques.

Major project contributions included:Multi-year Arabidopsis thaliana Genes of Unknown Function expression and reporter screening project activities, including, large-scale characterization by RT-qPCR, production and screening of GFP promoter-reporter transgenic plants, and collaborative development of custom MySQL database to manage project. Functional analysis of TGA-family transcription factors, including expression profiling using Affymetrix GeneChip® technology, chromatin immunoprecipitation microarray studies (ChIP-chip), creation of custom array for ChIP-chip proof of concept phase, creation and evaluation of homozygous insertion knockout lines. This work also included collaborative development of the first Arabidopsis whole genome tiling array and publication of the first Arabidopsis ChIP-chip paper.Other activities included collaborative development and evaluation of the Affymetrix ATH1 GeneChip® product (Redman et al., 2004), hypothetical gene cloning using the RACE technique, and general production and maintenance of biobank stock such as plant tissue culture lines, RNA, cDNA, and seed lines.
