As a patient care technician in the Emergency Department at AHN St. Vincent I provide care for a very wide variety of patients. I have received training to do phlebotomy, IV starts, and telemetry monitoring as well as various point of care tests in this fast-paced environment.

I have gained clinical experience through my required school clinical rotations, while working under an instructor, with patients in various units including the NICU, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, Labor and Delivery, and Telemetry Med-surg at Hamot Magee-Women's Hospital and Hamot Hospital. I have learned how to effectively manage the care of multiple patients at once, as well as create plans of care for individual patients as well. I have practiced clinical skills including passing medications, obtaining vital signs, and critical thinking. My time at this site has allowed me to gain knowledge about the flow of hospital units as well.

In a combined unit of pediatric, joint replacement, and GYN patients at Hamot Magee-Women's Hospital I worked as a patient care technician until May 2023. I then transitioned into the patient care technician role in the Medical Intensive Care Unit in August 2023.

In this role I was paired with a nurse preceptor in the Operating Room at Magee-Women’s Hospital at Hamot in Erie, Pa. I became familiarized with the flow and roles of the OR nurse and staff as well as the specialized procedures and equipment through my observations and participation during this time.

As a part of the transport team at Hamot Hospital, I was responsible for an average of 20 patient moves per day throughout the hospital. I would receive patient move requests using the IOS application, TeleTracking, I was responsible for then preparing the patient, their chart, and their medical equipment for transport. My priority was to move patients safely from point A to point B, instilling the value of patient safety into my work ethic.
