For the 2017-2018 school year I was trained in Columbia Teacher's College Writers Workshop. Through this training I have been given various new teaching assignments. In addition to teaching 7th and 8th grade Reading I am also teaching 6th grade Integrated Language Arts in conjunction with Writers Workshop and 8th grade Language Arts.

Bridgeport, Ct

In addition to my daily planning, developing, and implementation of unit plans, lesson plans, and curriculum for 7th grade reading I was responsible for staff training, development, and implementation of a school wide PBIS behavior system. I co-founded and led 20+ students in developing a the schools first Student Council. Through the Student Council I planned and implemented several school dances, various fundraisers, school wide events, and charity projects such as the Valentine's Day Dance, Spirit Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, creating blankets for a local hospital, writing letters to Soldiers across seas in Afghanistan and Iraq during the holidays, and making bagged lunches for the local food kitchen and community center. Furthermore, I sat on the new teachers hiring committee as a first and second year teacher, interviewing potential candidates, discussing school climate and culture, assessing behavior and classroom management, as well as personal fit with the existing staff and student personnel.

I was selected from approximately 45,000 applicants nationwide to join national teacher cops of recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in under-resourced public schools. I participated in intensive training programs to develop the skills and knowledge needed to achieve significant gains in student achievement, reaching and exceeding goals made for my students during my two year commitment. I taught in a summer school program run by Teach for America for students in New York City schools under the supervision of the existing school faculty of experienced teachers and Teach for America experts. I further engaged in a full schedule of professional development activities, including seminars, discussion groups, workshops, individual and group reflections, readings, and learning team specific to my teaching license area. In addition to fulfilling my two year corps member commitment at James J. Curiale school in Bridgeport, CT, I served as a Corps Member on the Council Advisory Board for the inaugural First Year Corps Member Summit in Nashville, TN as well as hosted a married corps members affinity group and presented on using restorative justice methods in the classroom at the summit. Additionally, I served on the Corps Member Leadership Council for all corps members in Connecticut and the Sponsor A Teacher Committee which worked towards building relationships and connections and collecting donations for Teach for America Connecticut across the state. Furthermore, I led a Collective Action and Impact Group, comprised of Connecticut corps members who worked together to develop an action plan on instilling growth mindsets in students across Bridgeport in various grade levels to combat the institutional closed mindset mentality. I also co-hosted a Teach for America Connecticut conference. Additionally, I presented with my my students and their parents on the impact they believe our Student Council made on the school's climate and culture.
