About Julia Sutter
I am a PhD student studying Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University. Before attending Drexel University, I received my BS in Biochemistry from the University of New Haven with honors. At the University of New Haven, my research focused on the identification of novel mutations and viruses in human heart biopsy samples from patients who had viral myocarditis. In addition to my academic research, I completed an internship at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in the Pre-Therapeutic Target Discovery department. My project focused on the analyzation of tumor growth and cytokines between different mouse strains and sex.Following my undergraduate studies, I obtained my MS degree in Microbiology and Immunology at Drexel University and continued my education into the PhD program. At Drexel, my research was focused on the biomedical application of non-thermal plasma (NTP) for viral infections, wound healing, and cancer. Specifically, my thesis focuses on the antiviral and immunomodulatory impact of NTP on HSV-1 infection using both an in vitro model for HSV-1 replication in cold sores and an in vivo model for oral HSV-1 infection.
