Julia Tijaja is an ASEAN, trade, and global value chain expert and policy practitioner with over nineteen years of international experience in policy analysis and advisory, economic diplomacy and trade negotiations, strategic planning, development program management, and capacity building. She started her career in international development, providing trade policy advisory and capacity building to a least developed country and later to a regional trade advisory body for the Pacific Islands. She has since held leadership positions in development programme and international organisation settings, including extensive experience at the ASEAN Secretariat.Julia is currently the Head of Markets and Competitiveness at Prospera (Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development), where she leads Prospera's largest portfolio on Expanding markets, Creating jobs. Her portfolio covers emerging sectors including digital economy, trade and investment, and labour and skills. Prospera supports government ministries and agencies in Indonesia through evidence-based policy analysis and advisory. Julia and her team work on policies to cultivate opportunities from emerging sectors, adopt measures to accelerate economic transformation, and support workforce transition to better jobs and more productive sectors. Julia is also an Associate Senior Fellow at the ISEAS - Yusof Ishak Institute, jointly under the ASEAN Studies Centre and the Regional Economic Studies Programme. Her research focuses on ASEAN resilience amid geopolitical uncertainties and the ASEAN Economic Community Post-2025 agenda.Prior to joining Prospera in 2021, Julia was Director of ASEAN Integration Monitoring at the ASEAN Secretariat, where she worked on key regional initiatives including COVID-19 recovery, economic integration monitoring, Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), the fourth industrial revolution, circular economy, and global value chains. Under her leadership, the ASEAN Integration Monitoring Directorate was significantly strengthened following its formalisation in 2016.Julia's other experiences focused on international development, global value chains, trade, and regional integration.
