In this position I serve as the project manager for the Food Security and Sustainability team at The Office of Economic Revitalization. Duties include execute strategies and partnerships to ensure food insecure communities gain access to nutritious, affordable, and culturally relevant foods through our micro-food summits. Execute programs to increase local food production, for the benefit of our community and our farmers, and to ensure resiliency within our food system.I also work to analyze data, and articulate community food needs on Oʻahu, engage and partner with community organizations to ensure economic and food access issues are addressed in all communities, and draft and advocate for policies to increase food equity and access.
Sustainable Food Systems Specialist
As a Sustainable Food Systems Specialist, I work on supporting the development of new and existing food-based partnerships, networks, and initiatives to promote a more equitable and sustainable local food system. This includes conducting research on successful strategies for promoting island food security, access, and sustainability for poverty reduction and climate change preparedness and provide recommendations for best practices. I am honored and thrilling to start my second term President of the Environmental Council for the 2019-2020 academic year! It has been an honor to lead such an amazing organization this past year, and watch it grow to the extent that it has. Over the past year, we have organized numerous service projects on and off campus, received funding for $20,000 worth of recycling bins, reduced the usage of styrofoam and single use plastics in dining halls and greek life, planned and orchestrated a campus wide recycling drive, and planned a campus wide Climate Strike. Through this role, I have been able to increase my leadership on campus as well as create sustainable change at UA. I am honored to lead a group with such passion and enthusiasm for our environment, and it has truly been the best thing that University of Alabama has given me.
