Imagine a world where all young people have the ability to explore, challenge themselves and discover their strengths all before starting college or other post-secondary pathways. Our young adults would be more motivated, confident and engaged in their education, life and work. As the founder of EnRoute Consulting, I aim to raise the profile of the gap year option to being an accepted and accessible cultural norm. In my work as a professional gap year counselor, I bring over a decade of travel and advising experience to individuals seeking meaningful gap year or sabbatical experiences. EnRoute is one of the longest running gap year advising firms in the country; since founding EnRoute in 2008 I have worked with hundreds of students and adult clients. I aim to use my expertise to further experiential education, ethical travel and higher education. I achieve this through individual counseling with families, partnering with gap year programs and consulting to educational institutions. I am passionate about promoting the gap year option and do so regularly through media and advocacy work. I serve as the President Emeritus of the Board of Directors for the Gap Year Association in order to help them further their mission to expand the gap year option in America. Together with GYA, I co-founded Gap Year Exploration Month, held annually, to allow educators and program providers to promote the gap year movement. I have been interviewed by ABC news, the Boston Globe, American Way magazine, WBUR Boston, NPR, NECN and other regional and national media outlets to speak as an expert about gap years. I cohost Gap Year Radio, a podcast that covers travel topics and planning advice for students, parents and educators who would like to learn more about the gap year option. I enjoy educating the public on topics surrounding gap year, adult sabbaticals and ethical travel. I speak across the country at conferences, schools and other events, including keynoting at select USA Gap Year Fairs locations.
