The SVZ and DG neurogenic niches contain stem cells, transit amplifying progenitors and neuroblasts.I learned various molecular biology strategies (confocal microscopy, cell counting, PCR, genotyping) under the post doctoral fellow, Julie Davies, who helped develop OxStem Neuro, an innovative new company that screens small molecules for their potential to stimulate endogenous stem cells and increase adult neurogenesis. In addition to consolidating my foundation for biomolecular techniques, I also worked on a metaphysical paper regarding trigeminal neuralgia and a separate review paper focusing on how neurogenesis is down-regulated in transgenic murine models of Alzheimer's Disease.
