Curtin is a community-based not-for-profit provider of services to older members of the western suburbs of Perth, including independent living, residential aged care, specialist care, in-home care, and community outreach. In March I started volunteering on a casual basis at the company’s day centre. In about a month I was hired for the In-Home Care team on a casual basis, and in July I was promoted to part-time.My job is to support people to remain independent in their own homes through the specific service packages they requested. My daily routine with clients consists of: companionship; monitoring health conditions; administering medications; washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting; meal preparation and feeding; cleaning the home, gardening, washing clothes and linens, shopping and other domestic duties; transporting to medical appointments; helping run errands; exercises and activities; and reporting progress to management and updating the care plan. Also part of my duties is to cover for scheduling staff whenever necessary.As of now, I have attained the CPR and First Aid training certificate and Medication Competency training in Australia.
