Created a pre-clinical 3-D tissue culture model of reconstructed bone marrow (rBM) to study the contribution of immune components and tumor-stromal interactions to the pathogenesis of hematological malignancies. Validated the rBM model as a superior system to evaluate the efficacy and off-target effects of therapeutics compared to standard 2-D cultures (and more cost efficient compared with in vivo methods) with the capacity to predict potency and cytotoxicity of investigational agents. Identified the putative multiple myeloma cancer stem cell and its niche.

Examined the role of cytokines and DNA damage response pathways in normal and cancer cell response to radiation. Set-up an orthotopic humanized mouse model to evaluate therapeutic efficacy and study tumor-stromal interactions in breast cancer.

Participated in the development of a humanized αEβ7 integrin antibody. Initiated target-discovery studies to identify genes responsible for sustaining chronic inflammation in autoimmune colitis and Crohn’s diseases. Assisted in the development of pre-clinical mouse models of chronic inflammatory psoriasis and colitis by adoptive transfer/activation of TH1 cells.
