Dedicated to connecting communities to their changing environment to develop solutions together, Julia Kumari Drapkin is the CEO of ISeeChange. ISeeChange is an AI powered data and engagement platform to help cities combat climate change. Leveraging resident generated data, sensors, and models, ISeeChange helps engineers, local government, and utilities manage climate ready infrastructure. Drapkin founded ISeeChange after reporting natural disasters and climate change for 12 years across the globe and in her own backyard on the Gulf Coast. Under her leadership, ISeeChange has received national awards and recognition from the Obama White House Climate Data Initiative, NASA, MIT Solve, Echoing Green, Grist, AGU, the AAAS, Verizon's Climate Tech and Justice Program, Village Capital, Exelon, and Morgan Stanley's Sustainability Lab. Prior to climate tech and journalism, Drapkin did anthropology research for 7 years in Central America. Today, it is almost impossible to separate our natural, built, and social environments. Weather and climate affect the type of infrastructure we build and how we live, work, and play in our communities. While our social environment determines how those impacts are experienced, it also determines which voices are heard from when it comes to solving problems. ISeeChange is connecting the stories to the data and producing unprecedented information critical to climate change adaptation across public works, emergency response, stormwater utilities, risk analysis, and novel community and parametric insurance products.
