Joint Engagement with Graduate School of Design AND School of Engineering & Applied Science as part of a collaborative degree program between these two Harvard Schools.I served as a core faculty for this new Masters in Design Engineering program, “preparing the next generation of leaders to create transformative solutions that positively impact society.” I developed and taught one of the core studio courses with themes that have included ‘waste’, ‘telepresence’, ‘energy, carbon, and society’.I also advised master’s thesis topics spanning climate-induced migration in Pakistan, STEM education for girls through a gaming platform, urban farming in Africa, the aging population, digital platform for political tracking in Spain, and government-incentivized relocation in Japan.

I served as brand ambassador to represent research and academic vision to university, government, and industry delegations. My responsibilities also encompassed establishing new structures and processes and leading international engagements for this nascent Harvard School (2007 Founding). In addition, I reviewed, negotiated, and advised for legal needs, including IP, NDAs, MOUs, and contracts for university-university, faculty-industry relationships, and realigned domestic and international alliances for university-university and university-industry collaborations. I also developed and taught in new cross-disciplinary degree programs, including for masters degrees and executive education.Notable external activities include:✧ advising the Fulbright Commission with the Brazilian Government to drive university education reform through targeted strategies.✧ Working group member enlisted by the Royal Academy of Engineering to develop a key proposal for higher education faculty advancement, which the Dutch government has since adopted for all their universities with buy-in from numerous other universities worldwide.✧ boosting support for women after co-founding the international organization called the IDEAL society.

Lima Province, Peru

As Executive Vice Provost, I led the design and implementation of the academic vision and university-wide pedagogy overhaul. I co-led the founding of several trans-disciplinary research centers, including for environmental science, data science, and preventative conservation and sustainability. I collaborated with the provost on creating policies related to faculty development, promotion, and salary structures and defined initial strategies and priorities for the Center of Teaching and Learning. During my tenure, the faculty was increased by 330%, and the student population by 280%. This was accomplished by executing a future-forward vision with diverse growth capabilities for both online and in-person engagement. UTEC is now ranked in first place per capita for scientific production in Peru – competition included established universities within the region.This role was concurrent with, but separate from the Harvard appointment overlapping many of the same years.

In this role, I pioneered 40+ successful (inter)national proposals for scientific research and experimental programs over 21 different facilities encompassing satellites, telescopes and synchrotron facilities. I led multiple diverse research teams with senior members, including deans, national laboratory directors, and professors across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. I provided research mentorship and thesis advising for undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. I also taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. Major achievement includes: ➜ Challenging senior scientific reservations to pioneer research into a newly established subfield of astrophysics, collaborating with talented specialists intersecting physics, chemistry, geology, and computer science. This new technique is now a focus of new X-ray satellite missions for the U.S., Europe, and Japan.➜ Notable Shared Prizes: 2015 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics; 2007 Gruber Cosmology Prize I served on the following committees and advisories:➜ U.S. (AAS) High Energy Astrophysics: Executive Committee to represent science interests to government.➜ Science Advisory and Review Committees: National Science Foundation, NASA, and European Space Agency for research and new space missions.➜ University & department committees, including as chair.

NASA funds Prize Fellows to develop their independent research program at an institution of choice. MIT and Harvard University served as official host institutions. I studied plasma under extreme conditions and developed several new avenues of research.

Conducted research and developed software to analyze data during the early inception years of the Supernova Cosmology Project. This work ultimately led to the discovery of an accelerating force in the Universe that has since been attributed to dark energy.I also developed on-line educational programs for the (now Global) Hands-On-Universe project during its early inception years.
