GUIDANCE and RELATIONS: Provided individual counselling and delivered group presentations on career planning and the job search process. Nourished relationships with business professionals including alumni and supported student organizations and individual student efforts in same. RESEARCH and COMMUNICATIONS: Articles and messages targeting York community member groups, industry contacts and media; industry and sector career guides; internal reports for department's and school's leadership, and project proposals.

Reporting to Program Leads at JVS, YMCA and Toronto Food Business Incubator, worked in groups and individually with over 400 participants in several Employment Insurance Self-Employment Programs including a youth pilot project, in capacities of organizer, group presenter and advisor/coach. Conducted workshops on costing and pricing, and on implementing accounting software. Met individually with 372 entrepreneurs to compile the income and cash flow forecasts for their business plans. Sat on expert panels evaluating entrepreneurs' graduation presentations.

Consulted three upscale Toronto and area food retail chains - KITCHEN TABLE, LONGO'S and BRUNO'S - on all aspects of profitability in Fresh Food Categories (prepared, deli, cheese, salad bar, bakery, catering and commissary). Analyzed and acted to decrease labour costs while significantly increasing team member satisfaction (at the time a record in one store) and raise sales (up to double in 6 months) and gross margin by negotiating rebates/discounts with present and new suppliers and designing/updating Category Management and Production Systems (monitoring sales, shelf life, production volumes, labor efficiency, food safety and shrinkage). Introduced/expanded Home Meal Replacement and Catering Programs, created Department Manuals, submitted proposals on and supervised upgrading and/or expansion of production facilities.

Vaughan, Ontario

Established family business supplying premium food retailers in Toronto and surrounding areas with line of freshly made-to-order foods growing to a selection of over 200 items: bulk deli salads, spreads and dips, and prepared foods. Designed Production Database System (recipe costing and order-specific prep quantity and assembly), researched, created and tested recipes and sourced ingredients. Performed all bookkeeping/accounting functions including AP/AR/GL, payroll, reporting and remittances, monthly bank reconciliation, and year-end consolidation. Continuously grew sales (50-100% annually) and improved profit margins, financed and executed several expansions of the facilities, and marketed and sold the company at a considerable profit, having received multiple offers including from a large national competitor.
