Hi there!My name is Julia and I am currently a senior at Royal Oak High School. At my high school, I've taken on leadership roles in a diverse array of extracurricular activities, including Model United Nations, Drama Club, Saxophone Ensemble, and Marching Band. My friends say that I'm "always doing something," and that 'something' is usually related to one of my extracurricular activities.I enjoy volunteering whenever I can! I am a member of my school's chapter of both the National Honors Society and the National Art Honors Society. However, my favorite volunteering experience was when I got the opportunity to be a volunteer camp counselor at Camp Carpenter in Detroit. The camp teaches kids about expressing themselves through construction, fabric, and fine arts and is free for Detroit and Hamtramck residents.In terms of my work experience, my brother and I have maintained a small lawn-mowing business for several years. In my sophomore year of high school, I got my first 'real' job at a Mexican restaurant, where I would work at 10-15 hours a week. In May of that year, I was offered a job at a diner, and ended up working 30 hours a week there in addition to the Mexican restaurant, the lawn-mowing business, and my volunteering as a camp counselor. This most recent summer, I was an intern at the Michigan League of Conservation Voters. Currently, I work about 10 hours a week at Chi FAN, an Asian fusion restaurant close to my home.Academically, I have exclusively taken the hardest classes my school offers at each appropriate level. This year and last year, I am one of only eight people pursuing my International Baccalaureate Diploma. I am proud of myself as an A- student due to the challenging nature of my classes.My career goal is to become an economic development officer and improve people's lives through economic policy.Looking forward to connecting with you!
