Currently, my role involves the development and implementation of monitoring strategies for rivers and lakes. I am responsible for monitoring and interpreting bathing water quality results. I support the bathing water management programme, including organizing sampling, communicating with stakeholders, posting beach notices, interfacing with online information systems, managing data, and producing/reviewing bathing water profiles. This includes out-of-hours attendance, especially on weekends during the bathing water season.In addition, I carry out licensing and monitoring activities related to effluent discharge to water bodies, always in compliance with national legislative requirements, European Union Directives, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards regarding water quality and wastewater. I investigate environmental pollution incidents, evaluate them, and prepare reports on these events. My responsibilities also include carrying out monitoring, inspection, and enforcement activities according to environmental and water services legislation, following strict analytical protocols, particularly for legal purposes. I prepare reports on the implementation of EU Directives and interpret/evaluate the results obtained.Furthermore, I conduct inspections and audits of private water schemes and regulated water supplies, reporting and following up on issues to ensure they are addressed. I maintain the statutory water registers, using GIS systems, and manage data on the Council’s GIS for River Basin Management Planning and Bathing Water. I am responsible for promoting and implementing required health and safety standards, including the Fingal County Council Safety Management System. I also assist in the preparation of technical reports and contribute to the preparation of the Annual Environmental Reports.

This includes analyzing a series of environmental samples and reporting results over the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Additionally, I was responsible for reporting the results of analyses, interpreting their significance, and controlling the high-pressure pump output as required. Part of my role included training new staff on the plant's processes and procedures, as well as managing the chemical storage inventory in the warehouse, overseeing best-before dates to ensure the stock retained its potency. I also organized water system purging when pipework was damaged, allowing for appropriate inspections to be carried out. I conducted inspection programmes within the water distribution system and installed and maintained the laboratory equipment and chemical feeders necessary for the process.

Additionally, I organised and updated the municipal legal archives and managed the agenda for the city council sessions.

Additionally, I continuously monitored environmental compliance throughout the duration of the licences, ensuring that all conditions were met.I also reviewed environmental testing results (such as water and soil samples) provided by outsourced partners, ensuring the accuracy and regulatory compliance of the results. I worked as part of the Health Department on a project focused on a predominantly agricultural area, consisting of farmers with large plantations and excessive pesticide use. The aim of the project was to investigate the link between intensive pesticide use and its environmental impact, particularly how these chemicals were directly affecting human health, potentially contributing to the spike in cancer incidence in the region.My main responsibility was to conduct a risk assessment of the area to identify potential contaminants that might be linked to the high cancer rates. Additionally, I reviewed pesticide usage and worked with the community, advising residents on how to properly dispose of these chemicals to reduce both environmental and health risks. I also partnered with affected families to identify a potential common environmental hazard acting as a carcinogen, in order to implement preventive measures.
