Now retired, but privileged to have worked in the area of personal data protection since the GDPR came into force in 2018.Having chosen marketing as a core discipline in college, my early career took me from working as a Brand Manager in what was then Beecham of Ireland (handling beverage, toiletry and over-the-counter medicine brands), much of my later career was in State agencies providing marketing supports to Irish industry (the former Córas Tráchtála/Irish Export Board - commonly known as CTT and then in Bord Bia/Irish Food Board). I joined Bord Bia upon its inception in early 1995 and built up a number of ‘information services’ drawing on both my marketing background and ICT management experience gained in CTT where I had taken up responsibility for computer systems in my later career.Later, I took on the role of leading the GDPR-readiness project having completed the Irish Computer Society's Data Protection Practitioner and European Certified Data Protection Officer courses. As the 25th of May 2018 loomed into view, I was flattered to have the opportunity to work in that area full-time with a group of professionals that I really respect in a company called Information Security Assurance Services (I.S.A.S.) for an array of both private and public sector clients. That company is now part of Waystone Compliance Solutions which gave me some exposure to the funds industry.
