Through a partnership between my university in Brazil and the University of Adelaide in Australia, I participated in the research and development of the Muradel Green2Black™ technology platform, specialized in harnessing renewable biofuel from marine microalgal biomass. As a Student Researcher, I participated in developing successful methods for wastewater treatment through the application of microalgae heterotrophic and cyanobacterial bioremediation, publishing the results at the 3rd International Conference of Algal Biomass, Biofuels, and Bioproducts, organized by Elsevier, in Toronto, Canada (2013).

At Sustec Jr, a Junior Company of student volunteers with a focus on providing solutions in biotechnology, I participated in an award-winning initiative to collect and recycle used cooking oil. As part of my role as a Communications Director, I developed public information campaigns and initiatives dedicated to environmental education to promote the responsible recycling of used cooking oil, building close collaborations with other student researchers and community participants. I also organized the placement of several “safe disposal containers” around the city in high traffic areas and managed the collection and redistribution of the used oil to recycling corporations for commercial reuse repurposing activities.
