IEMA is the Environmental Regulatory Agency of Espirito Santo State in Brazil. Its vision is promoting sustainable development in order to ensure environmental quality for future generations. Accordingly, one of the most important subdivisions in that Agency is the Environmental Impact Assessment Coordination, which is responsible, among other tasks, for setting up approvals based on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and site Inspections. Working five years as an Environmental Analyst in that department allowed me to enhance relevant technical and soft skills essentials for an outstanding performance as an Environmental professional. Daily duties on that department included:• Working in a multidisciplinary team in order to review and assess EIA and EA (Environmental Assessments) reports to assist governmental decisions on proposed developments;• Setting up environmental approvals and conditions for implementation and operation of new developments;• Checking regulatory compliance of several industry operations in a regular basis by reviewing follow up reports and through site inspections;• Promoting meetings with stakeholders in order to clarify technical aspects regarding environmental approvals requirements and decisions made throughout the process;• Addressing, reviewing and assessing Environmental Site Assessment reports (phases I and II mostly) of different kinds of industry sites (proposed or in operation phase);• Writing technical reports to support governmental decisions on Environmental Approval processes.
