About Juliane Fiates

I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher at Newcastle University (UK) on the Faraday Institution Degradation Project (https://degradationproject.com/) concerning the simulation of electrolytes and SEI formation in anode-free batteries. Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of São Paulo, which is affiliated with the Center for Innovation on New Energies (CINE). I obtained my doctorate and master's degrees in chemical engineering from the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Campinas in 2020 and 2015, respectively. During my doctoral studies, I spent six months as a visiting researcher at the University of Notre Dame in the US, working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Edward J. Maginn in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. My master's research focused on developing a method for simulating gas dispersion using the open-source CFD code OpenFOAM. For my PhD, I worked on molecular dynamics simulations to understand the transport mechanism of lithium in Li-air battery electrolytes and the impact of electrode materials and electrolytes on reaction mechanism routes. In addition to my degrees in chemical engineering, I also hold a degree in Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene Engineering from the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Campinas. I have experience as a process safety engineer consultant at DPR Engenharia, where I worked on gas leak and accident prevention projects. I also graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná in 2012, and worked as a process engineering intern at Incepa ceramic industry, where I developed projects on the automation and optimization of unit operations. My academic experience includes a position as a Teaching Professor in the Textile Engineering Department at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in 2021. I was responsible for teaching Transport Phenomena, Thermodynamics, Water and Effluent Treatment, and Textile Industrial Project in the undergraduate program. I also had experience as a Teaching Professor in the School of Chemistry at the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas in 2016, where I taught Risk Analysis for Process Industries, Occupational Safety, and Transport Phenomena to undergraduate students in Chemical and Production Engineering.
