About Julianna Ross

Julianna Ross is a Strategic Advisor, Sr. Community Program Developer at Seattle City Light. She possess expertise in nonprofits, social media, marketing, press releases, leadership and 15 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "Julianna Ross gets things done. She “gets” not only the big picture but she understands the thousand and one smaller details, issues and viewpoints that contribute to the big picture. Magnuson Park is a large, 350 acre park with many different uses and users that recreate there. Julianna genuinely listens to these users and shows that she cares for what they have to say. She brings to the table different park groups and different users of the park, with sometimes divergent views, inviting people to share their thoughts and concerns. Doing so takes tact and a compassion for the greater good. Julianna leads and advocates in a selfless way, regularly contributing hundreds of hours of service to the community and to the park. She has rightfully earned the trust and admiration of the community for her work. Through her advocacy, leadership and efforts with the Magnuson Park Advisory Committee, Julianna Ross brings people and issues together to foster community for a greater good. As an advocate for Magnuson Park she is unmatched in her perspective and zeal for this local -- and regional -- community treasure. The community that makes up Magnuson Park and the City of Seattle are more the better for her work." and "I have known and worked with Julianna Ross for the past two years. I first met her in the spring of 2011 in her role as president of the Sand Point Arts & Culture Exchange (SPACE), when we shared the goal of finding homes for the dozen artists who were losing their studios at Magnuson Park’s Building 11. We were interested in either finding ongoing space for the artists in Building 11 or for space to be made available in Building 30. Thanks to Julianna’s efforts, funding for the rehabilitation of Building 30 was found in the City of Seattle’s 2012 budget, and a permanent home for the artists, and the arts, will be part of that building by the end of 2013. In January 2012 I was appointed to the Magnuson Park Advisory Committee and Julianna became Chair. Thus for the past year I’ve had an opportunity to witness Julianna’s leadership style. Julianna led MPAC in its interactions with the development of the Parks Department Strategic Plan and worked closely with Parks staff to develop a format in which community members, environmentalists, recreation interests, and ongoing stakeholders at Magnuson could prioritize goals for the development of the park over the next several years. She was a tireless member of the Working Group, committed to insuring that community and environmental voices could be heard over the sometimes louder voices of commercial development and real estate interests. Thanks to Julianna, priorities in the Strategic Plan for Magnuson Park put preservation of open space and vegetation right at the top, along with rehabilitation and reuse of the historic buildings at the park. Julianna is smart and persistent. She is willing to try new things and she is great at follow-up. She will think through a problem independently but then figure out how to bring in others and involve them in the solution. She can communicate on many different levels—informally, publicly, and socially, so that her net of interaction is wide and effective on many different fronts. Julianna is definitely a Win-Win person; she will keep working the problem until resolution is found; she does not give up; she is civil and pleasant even when she may disagree with another’s position. She is good with time; she keeps to the planned or agreed-upon schedule; she is never late for appointments. To sum up, Julianna is a terrific individual to have on your team—and you’re way better off working with her, than “agin her.” Gail Chiarello Magnuson Park Advisory Council Neighborhoods Representative"
