As an EcoStewards field lead, I manage a team to perform native habitat restoration services and mitigation to sites across the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region and throughout Contra Costa county. Services include invasive plant identification and removal, practicing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) to treat invasive plants, planting and preserving native plant species, performing nesting bird surveys, and long term maintenance of restoration sites. Our work has restored and improved hundreds of acres of habitat, helped native vegetation establish and flourish, and created vital habitat for native organisms throughout Contra Costa county.

In my role as a researcher at the Road Ecology Center, I assumed leadership responsibilities for a project focused on monitoring the effects of major highways in the East Bay on wildlife presence and community composition. I took charge of coordinating and supervising the data collection and subsequent analysis of over 40 camera traps positioned along studied transportation corridors, including I-580, I-680, and Highway 84 in the East Bay region. As a team leader, I provided support for seven new interns by training them in field operations and field safety, leading team fieldwork days, and developing training documents and tutorials.

As a lead intern, I was responsible for setting and monitoring a network of camera traps at field sites in the East Bay. I identified wildlife species through animal sign (scat, prints) at field sites, and digitally through photographs taken by deployed camera traps. I developed skills in data management aby processing, identifying, and logging over 3,000 wildlife photos in the Wildlife Observer Network (WON) online database. I also recorded animal sign data and observations through the California Roadkill Observation System (CROS). I categorized data from the CA Highway Patrol Wildlife-Vehicle Collision Record database to develop maps of collision hotspots and financial repercussions of wildlife collisions.

I investigated the ecological impacts of Interstate-580 on East Bay Area wildlife communities with the UC Davis Road Ecology Center and National Center for Sustainable Transportation. My research involved placing and monitoring camera traps adjacent to I-580, identifying species from animal signs and camera trap photos, and processing California Highway Patrol wildlife collision reports. I used ArcGIS and R-Studio to perform statistical and visual analysis of species data collected via camera trap photos. This project aimed to document biodiversity along and adjacent to the I-580 road system and identify potential road barrier effects, which I hope will guide future research avenues and inform more wildlife-friendly road management practices.

I assisted in the collection of GPS data points of native and invasive emergent, submerged, and floating aquatic vegetation across the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Data points were collected and recorded manually in areas accessed by foot, truck, and boat in teams of two people.

I obtained a Class B License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements, allowing me to expertly operate a 36-foot bus. With precision and care, I safely transported up to 120 passengers along a multitude of memorized routes, ensuring their comfort and security throughout the journey. Communication was key in my role, as I engaged with passengers to resolve conflicts, answer inquiries, and create positive experiences. Whether faced with challenging road conditions or a demanding crowd, I consistently prioritized safety and efficiency. Additionally, I maintained detailed records of over 200 accident and incident reports, organizing and inputting them into the university's Risk Management database to contribute to a comprehensive safety record.
