As cofounder and CTO I was responsible for recruiting the stellar engineering team we had at PocketList, ensuring rapid, high-quality delivery of our product, and supporting and coordinating all technology needs across multiple disciplines in our company.Key initiatives:- Coded and released MVP of PocketList web app in 2 weeks- Grew core engineering team from just me to 6 engineers in 6 months (with zero attrition until the demise of the company)- Architected single Rails codebase to support 5 separate products- Designed state management framework shared between PocketList's web and iOS products (React, React Native, Redux)- Averaged new releases every 5.3 days- Coordinated with product, sales, and marketing to deliver timely features that drove user and customer value

Block was the failed experiment that gave us key insights and led us to PocketList. The lessons learned were hard earned by creating and disproving as many experiments as possible in as small a timeframe as possible.Things that didn't work include:- Chatbot to help your rental search (was actually just me and Nick manually answering text messages from a Google voice number)- A top ten list of apartments in West LA- Apartment scouts: send a real person to a listing so that they can tell you if an apartment sucks or not (again this was me and Nick running around LA taking pictures of apartments, together we probably saw at least 300 units)- A workflow management tool to coordinate your apartment search with a person you will be cohabitating withEventually we came up with PocketList which originally was just a form that pipes into a Google Sheet and we matched people manually. Then things escalated quickly from there.

After Pose I wanted to move as close to the metal as possible without jumping in and becoming a founder myself, and at Gem I was the company's first hire as a Senior Software Engineer.I helped recruit and manage an engineering team of 8, including running an executive search to bring in a VP of Engineering (closed in 4 weeks start to finish).I led and helped technical design almost all of the major projects and engineering initiatives in my time there. That includes:- Gem's multisignature Bitcoin wallet API and client libraries- GemOS, an enterprise blockchain management and deployment solution (also a named inventor for a pending patent on this one)- Technical liaison for several proofs of concept built on GemOS including a permissioned EMR network in partnership with Philips, a supply chain provenance solution, and an IoT sensor network for auto insurance underwriting- Spearheaded the deployment and management of our Kubernetes cluster in AWS to support GemOS

My first full time engineering job out of USC. I was intentional about finding an early stage startup, and I lucked out when I stumbled into Pose. I worked to get my hands dirty with every product that Pose had. I started on the API in Rails and eventually moved to the two man job of launching our Android app. Following that release I also did work to support our existing iOS app and web app.These were formative years where I met many of the people who would become friends and mentors to guide me through my career to this day. I learned a lot about the kind of companies and teams I wanted to build in the future.
