Between progressive field postings I returned to Canada and spoke at events and conferences about the work of MSF.

As the manager of our programs in Lae, Papua New Guinea, I oversaw all aspects of a clinic dedicated to providing medical and psychosocial care for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.I was the overall responsible for all operations. I managed a team of 6 staff who coordinated medical, psychosocial, logistics and admin with a broader team of 30. I worked with an outreach team to develop an awareness program throughout local settlements. As a member of the country management team, I was responsible for country HR and Financial management. I was the functional manager to field HR and Finance staff, and direct manager to the capital HR, Finance and Liaison staff. CAI was established in 2008 through a $10-million grant from the Province of British Columbia. In March 2013, CAI received a subsequent $10 million grant from the Province to continue its work, as well as $5 million to specifically address supportive recovery housing.As the Secretariat Director I supported the CAI Leadership Council and oversaw the CAI Secretariat. The Secretariat functions to operationalize the strategic direction of the Leadership Council. I was responsible for ensuring priorities and goals approved by the Leadership Council are addressed and for monitoring and reporting back to the council on implementation and outcomes.I facilitated funding decisions, oversaw all granting activities and contracts, managed legal, fiscal and policy matters, supervised staff, initiated and maintained relations and communications with funders and partners, established evaluation needs and ensured accountability. In this role I have crafted and coordinated a communication strategy and represented the organization during the media launch of Charter Challenge regarding federal use of administrative segregation. I also developed and oversaw a unique research project focused on youth in custody.I have also been appointed to the Leadership Council of the Community Action Initiative to represent the BC Alliance for Mental Health/Illness and Addiction and speak to justice and safety issues. Prior to departure, trained in history of conflict, current issues, human rights and Mexican law.In Chiapas, Mexico worked in three different indigenous villages, each with a different political alignment (Internally Displaced, Occupied Government Forces, Autonomous). Documented potential human rights abuses including overt and low-level psychological abuses as well as potential trafficking.
