There's a Chinese proverb that goes, To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.I couldn't agree more. I've had the opportunity to do that at a very young age and it gave me the chance to travel the world and decide to make many different countries my home. When people ask me where I am from, I'm always puzzled. Is it where I was born? Or where I went to school? How about where I did most of my growing up? Or actually where I found my vocation? So many cultures have shaped the person I am today that the best thing I can usually come up with is: I'm from all over the place!Teaching a language is more than a job for me. It allows me to consider all the aspects of communication, to ease people into different sounds and ways to describe the world through words or to help you to be able to do your job in another language and expand your horizons. On top of that, playing a part in shaping someone else's future, helping young people to access university courses abroad, or landing the job of their dream allows me to connect with people on a deeper level. After many years of hands-on experience, I am now the Academic Coordinator at Tes Online, where, besides teaching, I manage and look after the online teachers. This allows me to combine my passion for teaching with my good organisational skills. Among the many things I have recently delved into are the use of new technologies to teaching, the Needs Analysis, and course design aspects and testing. In the meantime, I’m currently in the process of finalising my DELTA qualification (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) because, despite being a very challenging path, I believe a teacher’s responsibility is to keep learning to be better able to connect with students, understand their language needs, their weaknesses and strengths and design courses which motivate them beyond their limits, as well as enhance their existing abilities. The one thing I love as much as teaching is travelling!
