I did not graduate with a degree in marketing, and I certainly was not qualified on resume paper to work there. Lucky for me, through the help of a mutual friend, I was able to get a meeting with her. I pitched a few (at the time) innovative ideas to complement and support their traditional PR efforts, using free new media platforms to spread the word online. And just like that, I was hired for the summer. My most successful efforts involved creating and managing a blog (on Blogspot, ha!) to share press releases, media coverage, footage from events and progress toward our goal. I also created the agency's first interactive "digital press release," using PRNewswire's new features where you could include links, media and such. I organized and executed a blog outreach program that targeted do-good and mommy bloggers to help spread the word and in return feature and link to them on our blog. Win-win-win.
