Glasstop Games is not what it seems. It isn't a gaming company, it is a research lab. Because it is wholly owned and operated by me I can conduct experiments in marketing and software development that would be impossible or irresponsible to conduct at client companies. Here are just two significant experiments we have conducted in recent years...Experiment 1 - How can advanced technologies be leveraged to improve collaboration among geographically distributed teams. In this experiment we used a range of augmented reality and virtual reality equipment (ranging from the <$100 GearVR to $2000+ HoloLens and Magic Leap headsets) to conduct all agile team meetings for a software development team. We found this approach superior to video chat for many meetings such as retrospectives and sprint reviews. Other meetings such as daily standups and pair programming worked better with video chat or screen sharing technology and we identified the specific technology changes that would be required for AR/VR headsets to be superior for those meetings as well.Experiment 2 - Generating website traffic and SEO rankings without relying on link building. Digital marketers rely heavily on link building to generate SEO traffic. This ongoing experiment focuses entirely on what can be accomplished with site structure and on page techniques. Results have shown that a site can consistently compete with competitors who have well over 1,000 times the backlinks. As of April 2020 Glasstop Games ranks #1 for nearly 1,000 keywords and on page 1 for over 10,000 keywords against competitors with over 4 million backlinks (Glasstop Games has under 500 backlinks.)

At Crosschq I led a highly productive engineering team of engineers using the PETAL stack (Phoenix, Elixir, Tailwind CSS, Alpine.js, & LiveView) with a PostgreSQL DB to build an application that provides recruiters with the tools and data they need to hire the right people faster.We also integrated with several ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) such as Lever, SmartRecruiters and Greenhouse using a custom importer (built with GenStage, Broadway, & Tesla) Our team fully embraced agile and DevOps practices such as pair (and mob) programming, CI/CD (we often released several times a day), TDD (Test Driven Development), daily standups, etc. I'm particularly proud of our test suite which ran in under a minute and provided 90% test coverage for both the front end and server code.As a manager I was responsible for managing and mentoring both new and very senior engineers as well as project management and assisting the product team.

mobi provides state of the art routing optimization for fleets with multi-stop routes to manage.While at mobi I designed and developed several key systems, two of note were:- Automated deployment system - I redesigned and drove the implementation of a Chef-based deployment system that reduced deployments from an error prone multi-day process to a smooth process that completed in a couple of hours.- Vehicle data capture system - This service had the highest performance requirements of any in the company. It was developed in Clojure using a TDD approach and was so performant it had to be throttled to relieve load on the SQL Server database it fed. This system also allowed me to introduce mobi to the benefits of functional programming.
