Julia Staples Email and Phone Number

Julia Staples has been working as a professional photographer and artist since graduating from Parsons School of Design in 2002. In Spring of 2012 she graduated from the Masters in Fine Arts program at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She was invited to attend Tyler with a Graduate Fellowship, allowing her to start teaching at the Undergraduate level in 2010. Since graduating she has continued teaching Photography at Tyler and making art in her studio. Staples began teaching at the Undergraduate level in 2010 with a Digital Photography 1 class at Tyler School of Art. The emphasis was on building an artistic vision while simultaneously teaching students how to use a DSLR camera and build skills in the digital darkroom. She has also taught darkroom classes involving advanced darkroom techniques woven in with the building of ones personal practices. Her most recent personal project is titled Signs of A Nomaly and addresses the search for transcendence both physically and spiritually. Before attending Tyler School of Art, she lived in Iceland where she was the recipient of the William J. Fulbright Fellowship in 2003, for research and practice in her artistic practices. In 2008 she was awarded the American Scandinavian Foundation Award to return to Iceland and continue pursuing her vision. In addition she was awarded Mobility Grants from the Nordic Culture Council to travel to both Estonia and Sweden for her artistic research. She has exhibited in Iceland, Spain, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia including shows at La Casa Encendida, Madrid, The Nordic House in Iceland and the New York Hall of Science.
