Features editor for Johnston Press Scotland's weekly titles across Scotland, working from The Falkirk Herald office in Grangemouth.I both write and edit local news features, Scotland-wide news features and advertising supplements for more than 30 weekly titles in the JP Scottish portfolio.I'm more than happy to hear from Scottish organisations and charities seeking to raise their profile, with a little help from titles which stretch from the Borders all the way up to Peterhead and Stornoway. Latterly acting editor of the title. Again, leading a small team to produce a weekly newspaper and develop website in an age before Facebook and Twitter had really taken off! I've gone full circle, as I'm now helping to edit the paper two days a week - it feels like going home! I loved Linlithgow and the folk I met there and thought long and hard about leaving - because I was really happy there. Just a bit too comfy though - never a good thing for a journo really.

Covering a range of news stories for The Falkirk Herald, with responsibility for our very successful Petrol Price Watch campaign - in the days when we fought to get unleaded down from 89p to 79p (them were the days) - and covering the Grangemouth patch. The Falkirk Wheel also became known as Julie's Wheel as I wrote about it from the very start of the project right up until the Queen opened it on May 24 2002, a few months after I left The Falkirk Herald for Linlithgow. Little known fact, despite writing about it for three years, I've still not actually been on the engineering feat!

My very first job was at The Montrose Review, now also owned by Johnston Press but in those days a private concern run and owned by Judith Sutherland. It was a wonderful place to learn my craft, with a lot of fantastic characters and I look back on those days - when you actually had to talk to people in person - with a great deal of affection. The printing press was below our offices in the same building and I drove a battered old van up and down the road to Falkirk in my weekends off. I'm often nostalgic for Montrose and it will always have a piece of my heart. A notepad, phone and getting out the office to talk to folk - bliss! No emails, no Twitter, no Facebook, no websites - just good old-fashioned reporting. It's funny, in just 20 years, how much things have changed...I wonder how much they will change in the next 20 before I start thinking about retirement!!
