I started my career as a Nanny, always knowing I wanted a career taking care of people. 3 years later I joined the police enabling me to protect people on a wider scale. Recently retired from the Met, I’ve had an amazing, (never dull) and fulfilling career in the heart of London Communities. I’ve worked in front-line policing, I’ve been an emergency response police driver, I’ve tracked down – and found – some of the most wanted criminals and supported many victims through difficult, traumatic times. These experiences mean that nothing surprises me, I’m ready for anything and thankfully, I’ve managed to retain an open mind, sense of humour and a positive outlook on life. During the last 5 years, I’ve specialised in Safeguarding and have been working with the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). This has developed expertise in this area and a deep commitment to protecting children and vulnerable people. I’ve had the privilege of working with a highly dedicated team and creating lasting connections in the process with external agencies and partners. Known amongst colleagues for organising socials, I’ve enjoyed organising work events, Xmas parties and gatherings throughout my career. This reflects a wider commitment to bringing people together and creating opportunities for positive relationships - I set up a community group in my own neighbourhood many years ago where people aged 13 to 94 continue to meet up once a week in my house for a cup of tea and a chat. I have been awarded 3 Commendations for bravery and actions taken at the scenes of life-critical incidents during my career. Outside of work, I am mum to two teenage daughters and have been an ‘Extra’ on police dramas and films.

Police Officer - Investigator, Researcher & Risk Assessor (Safeguarding)Metropolitan Police 2015 - 2020Westminster Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (Mash)With emphasis on partnership working to safeguard vulnerable adults and children in Westminster, I was based at Westminster Social Services and worked as part of dedicated, multi-agency team - awarded ‘Outstanding’ by OFSTED. MASH is comprised of co-located staff from Children’s Social Care, Police and Health from 3 London Boroughs with links to Probation Housing and Youth Offending Team. Working on the Police Public Protection Desk, I worked with MASH partners to assess the level of risk and direct safeguarding concerns to the relevant borough via MASH. Integral to this role was carrying out detailed research to reveal and assess risk, making sound decisions based on evidence and working in effective collaboration with all partners to deliver a seamless, joined up service to protect vulnerable individuals. As part of the investigative aspect of this work, I also liaised with families where needed to establish and verify information. During this time, I worked on a project to raise awareness of and reduce Child Sexual Exploitation through revealing major knowledge gaps in the Hotel sector, engaging them and training their staff. 60 London hotels were covertly tested, all initially failed to respond to the signs and the majority took up subsequent training which empowered staff to confidently recognise and respond to potential Child Sexual Exploitation within their hotels. ✔ Skills & Knowledge further developed: Safeguarding • Partnership Working • Risk Assessment • Research • Investigating • Training -
Police Officer - Warrants OfficerMetropolitan Police 2013 - 2015As Warrants Officer, the purpose of my role was to identify and track down wanted fugitives who were deliberately avoiding detection and detention. This was a position of responsibility in which I worked solo as part of a wider team, but essentially had complete autonomy. Managing a varied and complex caseload, I prioritised cases and liaised extensively with partner organisations such as the Department of Work and Pensions to secure additional relevant information leading to their arrest. ✔ Skills & Knowledge further developed: Investigating • Use of Systems • Partnership Working • Attention to Detail -
Police OfficerMetropolitan Police 1989 - 2013Acting up as sergeant when required, I worked in police roles on the front-line, within the community and in an investigative capacity including:♦ Local Community Ward Officer (Battersea) Responsible for the community of Battersea, I encouraged residents to create neighbourhood watch groups which they enthusiastically embraced and crime reduced in this area. As a visible, approachable and caring presence within the community, I played a part in strengthening the relationship between the police and the community. ♦ Front-line Emergency Response Driver After specialist training, I responded to emergency 999 police calls and attended a range of incidents involving decision making under pressure, driving safely in populated areas and demonstrating solid geographical knowledge of London. ♦ Telephone Investigation Bureau Responding to incoming calls from victims of crime, I carried out initial investigations and uploaded confidential data onto the system for further action where needed. This required sensitivity and good listening skills as callers could be vulnerable, upset and many had English as a second language. ♦ Crime Prevention Officer A proactive role, this involved delivering talks to schools and community groups on personal safety and protecting themselves from potential crime. I visited homes following burglaries and carried out a review of home safety and gave practical advice and support as well as reassurance to the victim to prevent similar incidents in the future. ♦ Crime Prevention Design AdviserThe aim of this role was to ensure new residential buildings in the region were constructed to create safe spaces and reduce crime. Following specialist training, I acted as crime prevention design adviser to architects, town planners and property developers. ✔ Skills & Knowledge further developed: Community Policing • Crime Prevention • Investigating • Training • Decision Making • Leadership • Driving • Communication • Problem Solving -
Qualified, Professional NannyPrivate Residence 1986 - 1989I took care of 2 children aged 2 and 4 at the time which involved assisting with their education and development, taking care of their wellbeing and engaging them in activities in line with their interests.
