About Julie Perdue

Over 20 years of public library experience, most of which focus youth services management, special projects, teen services advocacy and mentoring and developing direct reports, colleagues, and youth.I have multiple speaking and writing credits regionally and nationally. Currently I supervise 4 direct reports and act as Manager of Youth Services for Bexley Public Library where we provide robust internal programming and outreach that supports learning through play and literacy building for all ages and stages. I am motivated by projects, partnerships, and facilitating the growth of my team as a group and individuals. I practice yoga in the Iyengar tradition and am a level one Reiki Practitioner. I enjoy gardening, writing, photography, baking and spending time with my family, friends, and pets

    Leading Youth Services team of 4 FTE staff in services, programs, outreach and collection engagement for youth birth through 18 and their caregivers/educators. In the first 18 months: Evaluated and reconfigured scheduled hours to expand outreach to Maryland and Cassingham Elementary schools and additional preschool classes, resulting in a 46% increase in children reached. Worked with youth services librarian to revamp weekly Minecraft program. We moved programming location, dropped registration, and added more games including board, giant checkers, connect four, etc and a Nintendo Switch. Twice a month we offer "Kids Gaming" and twice a month "Teen Gaming." The first six months of this change in programming location and format has seen a 100% increase in participation for Kids Gaming and a 156% increase in "Teen Gaming." Note that Minecraft also had different age audiences throughout the month for equal comparison. Supported staff in launching PJ Dance Party, an evening story time. Average attendance 20 children. Coached team member on coordinating relabeling all juvenile fiction with author sticker rather than "J" Juvenile sticker. Total of 135 shelves relabeled, weeded, and replacement orders made. Project completed in 3 weeks. Hosted Bryan Collier for the 30th Annual Caldecott Read-In in partnership with Bexley Schools. Teacher registration maxed out at the 60 offered spaces. Additionally over 100 adults came to the afternoon program with Mr. Collier. Garnered two front page articles in the Bexley edition of This Week News. First Project Manager of the new team focusing on Safety and Wellness and BPL. Early results include: Getting Insurance rates earlier than ever from consultant to make timely decisions regarding renewal. Earning an LSTA grand to bring in 8 hour Mental Health First Aid Training for October 2018 Staff Day.

Managed Homework Help Center.Managed Summer Reading Club, VolunTeens and Community Interns.Participated in a supporting role of closing Main Library before renovation and in preparing Children's department for reopening. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity.Lead project team to create recommendations for strengthening Teen Services at CML. Document embraced a holistic approach with recommendations regarding outreach, programming, teen spaces, staffing, teen cards. An immediate result from the recommendation was the organization adopted the Search Institute's Developmental Assets including staff training on the Assets for multiple years.During the 14 months Main Library was closed I was the first Youth Services Manager at the Marion-Franklin Express branch. Supervised 2 staff including the branch security officer.Launched the first SRC program at the new branch. Attendance to programs and participation in SRC and Reading Buddies was comparable to branches in the system open twice as many hours. Hosted first author visit at Marion-Franklin with the partnership of the Columbus City Schools Career Opportunity Center.
