My objective is to train the next generations of global leaders.Currently, I am in what I call an internship in eldercare. Five years ago, it didn't even cross my mind, yet I knew the volunteering and career choices I made along the way prepared me to care for my parents today.I have a friend who, with the help of his partner, cared for his elderly parents. He always says there is one in every family – a person who takes the responsibility for end-of-life care instinctively. It came suddenly, but it was my next step. During my days at Starbucks, I developed customer service skills that I use every day. When I was a teenager, I was a “candy striper” at a local hospital. We were the volunteers who ran errands for patients, fed those who could not feed themselves, and carried specimens to labs that today would be considered biohazards. It built compassion in me and toughened me up a bit. I always felt comfortable in a hospital setting. Decades later, I would be a part of leading groups to under-developed countries bringing humanitarian aid on short-term mission trips. A new generation of teenagers and adults developed their compassion.Caregiving has been my hallmark even when I did not realize it. I have trained to be a disaster relief volunteer. Every person has a situation that seems to be a crisis. My goal is to be the problem solver with an easy solution, all while staying peaceful and together. When our children were young, we became homestay parents over a ten-year period to more than 40 foreign students who were in the U.S. to study English as a second language. While staying in our home, they practiced and strengthened their English skills. The shortest time of a stay was a day; the longest was a year. The youngest was 17, and the oldest was 40. We learned about new cultures, and they learned about ours. It taught us lessons, especially communication and listening skills.If you need a word of encouragement, message me.
