If needed, my music bio is here:Flutist Scolnik has enjoyed a diverse musical career as a soloist, orchestral flutist, and chamber musician. Her tonal enchantment and communicative gifts have captivated audiences across the United States and abroad.The 2023-2024 season marks Ms Scolnik's 27th year as artistic director of Mistral Music, a chamber series which has brought her accolades for her imaginative programming and for the personal connection she establishes with her audiences. As a guest flutist at festivals across the U.S. and France, Ms. Scolnik has collaborated with countless world-class artists and chamber groups that include the Brentano, Chiara, and Borromeo String Quartets. She is an active soloist in the U.S., and in France she offers an annual fall recital at the Salle Cortot in Paris and in festivals of Provence during the summer. In earlier years, Ms. Scolnik performed as principal flute with many of Boston's leading orchestras including Emmanuel Music, The Boston Ballet, and Lyric Opera, and toured and recorded in the flute section of the Boston Symphony. Ms. Scolnik is a frequent featured guest on Boston's WGBH radio, having made over three dozen radio appearances. Ms. Scolnik has released three commercial CDs to critical review, the latest two with her daughter, pianist Sophie Scolnik-Brower. Since undergoing treatments for breast cancer in 2005, Ms. Scolnik has found ways to both organize and perform concerts which raise funds for cancer support and research, two with the world-renown conductor, Sir Simon Rattle in Boston’s Jordan Hall in 2010, and in 2019, and in Paris for the Ligue Contre le Cancer at the Hotel de Ville in 2014. Twice a year since 2009 she has been a guest speaker at Harvard Medical School. She lives in Brookline, Massachusetts, with her husband, physicist Michael Brower, with whom she has a daughter, Sophie, and a son, Sasha, also musicians.In 2021 Scolnik's debut memoir, Paris Blue, was published, and has since received 18 awards. Set against a backdrop of classical music and Paris in the late seventies, this true fairytale memoir (with a dark underbelly) evolves from deep romance to sudden heartbreak, and finally to a lifelong quest for answers to release hidden immutable grief. It's about the tenacious grip of first love.
