I enjoy building new things, tackling hard problems, and working to make a difference. My job is to modernize FEMA’s data and analytics capabilities so that the agency is better able to help people before, during, and after disasters. My team is building a modern data platform called the FEMA Data Exchange (FEMADex) to help FEMA manage its data as a strategic asset, enable a “share by default” data culture, and empower analysts to implement advanced AI/ML techniques. I’ve taken a non-linear career path, including:-> growing up in rural Michigan and spending summer engineering internships working in factories for automotive parts and jet engines-> studying solid mechanics and nanomaterials in graduate school, including how geckos walk on walls-> developing new methodologies to assess quantitative risk to the nation from a wide range of threats and hazards including pandemics, hurricanes and earthquakes, industrial accidents, and terrorism -> building new analytic capabilities for early detection and situational awareness of biological events of concern, such as unusually high levels of disease incidence or emergence of a novel virus-> leading strategy and operations for an internal investment program in digital & AI products and services at a “Big 4” global professional services firmI value authenticity, curiosity, and hard work – and am known for my collaborative spirit, disarming sense of humor, and love of cats.If that resonates with you and you are a software engineer, data scientist/engineer, or product manager interested in supporting the best mission in the federal government, please watch this space – we’re hiring!
