BARKA Berlin e.V. is part of the BARKA Foundation, originally founded in Poland in 1989 and now active across Europe, with locations in Poland, the Netherlands, and the UK. For the past ten years, the Barka Foundation has been supporting Polish citizens who are homeless on the streets of Western European capitals. Our newly established location in Berlin is dedicated to supporting European migrants facing severe challenges, especially homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues, helping them rebuild their lives.

Kiron enables access to higher education and successful learning for people with a refugee background through digital solutions.I am responsible for the following tasks:● Employee Satisfaction Survey: Design of survey questions, interpretation of results, communication of results through presentation, facilitation of workshop to gather elaborative insights and perspectives from employees on barriers and possibilities to improve happiness, create action plan and implementation of measures ● Assisting with development of Kiron’s Quality Assurance Handbook, targeted at partner universities ● Meetings with other potential collaborators (NGO’s) to plan and facilitate employment related activities for students ● Documenting processes for internal quality assurance ● Training in employment law, research on employment law issue and other legal tasks, such as contracts and other formal documents ● Assisting in user testing and development of self-hosted MOOCs on Kiron Campus ● Support in Agile transformation of the whole organisation ● Support in designing and implementing feedback software, “Leapsome” ● Organiser of guest speaker program: selection, planning and facilitating

Working in the Human Resources department, I was responsible for the recruitment of managers at Starbucks. This work included screening applications, selecting candidates, conducting job interviews, as well as developing and practicing employer-branding strategies. I established relationships with central actors such as counselors at career centers at universities and vocational schools all over Germany. I have gained valuable knowledge about laws and structures within the German job market, a scientifically sound approach to the personality test tool, Cubiks, and insight in the planning of costs for personnel in a big, international company.

Intern at Danmarks Evalueringsinstitut (EVA)My tasks included writing proposal letters, performing background research, having meetings with central stakeholders, conducting surveys, interviews and focus groups with students and teachers at the schools. The analysis involved a team-based effort, but I also had the opportunity to solve various analytical problems on my own, namely by independently contributing to final reports. I also assisted in writing a script for a video about how to foster democratic practice in NGOs, and I assisted in presenting results from a project on “Increasing motivation in adult education” to clients and other stakeholders.

Student research assistant at University of Copenhagen, Department of Science Education, KU 2016 project on ”Online and blended learning”I assisted in developing e-learning models for courses at University of Copenhagen. Specifically, I carried out surveys and interviews for both instructors and students to help develop online and blended learning techniques. This effort lead us to a better understanding of the use of digital and didactic methods in blended learning environments.

Student research assistant for Dr. Michael O. Emerson, Rice UniversityI assisted in conducting the background research for Emerson's and Kevin T. Smiley’s book using an urban sociological perspective in a comparison between Houston, Texas, and Copenhagen. My specific tasks included designing an online survey on attitudes of the citizens of Copenhagen on a wide range of topics. I assembled current and past policies by the Municipality of Copenhagen, and translated a range of different newspaper articles from Danish to English.

Student research assistant at the National Food Institute, Danish Technical University (DTU), Department for NutritionI assisted in a study on social stratification within nutrition and physical activity. Specifically, I used a digital tool NVivo, to code interviews. I also assisted in creating reports and research presentations.
