Julie joined the Magic Moments Foundation in 1998 for the Basket Brigade event, packing 60 hampers in a little hall in Randwick. The brigade has expanded to divisions all over Australia where thousands of baskets are packed full of food, gifts and toys for those in need.Julie started a “Grandy” program in 2000, which was targeted to elderly people, living alone or in hostels and found out through carers what they needed most. From much needed new clothes to a biro were requested. (I was advised by the manager of one centre “These people are destitute, and if you don’t have a penny coming in, then even a biro is out of reach!”) This program has expanded to other areas in AustraliaIn 2001, we developed a Youth Leadership program, inspired by Anthony Robbins and a team of us fundraised for 18 months to be able to send 49 Aussie teenagers and 11 teachers and carers to The Anthony Robbins Discovery Camp in Sand Diego in 2003. Eleven of the MMF Board paid to go and crew the event. After the event, we provided an opportunity to the teenagers to have a mentor to help keep the momentum going. Julie mentored one of Father Riley's boys and a treasured friendship was created.In 2006, a partnership with the Anthony Robbins Foundation was formed to help provide tools and resources to more teenagers in Australia. The goal was always to be able to stand alone as an Australian Foundation with Australian sponsorship and support and this was realised in 2009. Since then the Magic Moments Foundation has held an annual residential Youth Leadership and Business Summit for teens aged 14-17 years. It is amazing for all involved to see the transformation of these teens and a privilege to be part of the program.Past participants to our program have created their own businesses, been chosen to join and travel with international businesses, written books, gained confidence, raised self-esteem and all have contributed to their communities, with passion and joy!
