At GSC I've gained experience in many areas of SaaS accounting: investor reporting, revenue recognition, contract review, preparing journal entries, accruals, account reconciliation, month-end close, commissions analysis, expense report review, payroll, sales and use tax, reconciling high-volume credit card and bank accounts, all accounts payable and receivable duties, and a first year audit by KPMG.

Magee Electric is an awesome family of electricians! My accounting work with Magee has been a variety of things very similar to my job with Benchmark (see below for details), with the additions of Payroll and Job Costing. The majority of my time is spent updating the billing and job costing process and developing more efficient, accurate, and reliable ways of doing what we do!

This can get confusing. I worked the majority of this position for a company named Ascolta and it's sister company CompetenC, both of which were acquired by the Center for Professional Development @ ITT Technical Institute, which later was rebranded to Benchmark Learning. Whew!We were a family, and my time spent at Ascolta/CompetenC/CPD/ITT/Benchmark was very formative for me. Some of my responsibilities included: GL Accounting, month end closing, journal entries, deferred revenue, accruals, inventory asset tracking and depreciation, filing 1099s, filing sales tax and property tax, bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, financial reporting, all Accounts Receivable and Payable duties. I streamlined and improved accounting processes and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and accuracy. I researched and resolved customer issues and account discrepancies. I worked extensively with our diverse sales team to keep an updated billing and registration database, requiring constant interaction with a diverse group of people and personality types. I also managed our Pearson VUE onsite testing center and mobile center, oftentimes requiring me to travel to customer sites, which didn't involve accounting, but was a fun extra hat to wear! Notable achievements include creating the system and accounting processes for Ascolta's sister company, CompetenC Solutions, Inc. and managing every facet of its accounting, bookkeeping, record keeping, reporting, etc., since the company’s inception in 2012. I also successfully completed the closing of the books and Balance Sheet post-acquisition by ITT and within deadline.
